Christopher Simpkins is an assistant professor of Computer Science at Kennesaw State University. Prior to joining KSU he was the Senior AI Architect at Semtech/Sierra Wireless, and a Senior (Principal) Software Engineer at IBM in The Weather Company business unit. Before joining IBM he was a Research Scientist at Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) and a Lecturer in the College of Computing where he taught machine learning, data science, database, and software design and development courses. He has taught professionally as a classroom instructor, a scuba instructor, a youth wrestling coach, and an Air Force instructor pilot. He has built and delivered software into production in industry, academic, government, and applied research settings in roles from junior engineer to lead architect. He has conducted research in AI/machine learning, programming languages, and software engineering, and applied machine learning to text analysis, radio emitter identification, automated antenna design, and adaptive agent programming. His research has been published in AAAI, OOPSLA, ICCM and the journal Scientometrics. Dr. Simpkins earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science with a specialization in AI and Machine Learning under ACM, AAAI and AAAS Fellow Charles Isbell at Georgia Tech, his M.S. in Computer Science at Southern Polytechnic State University, and his B.S. at the United States Air Force Academy.
